This actress, who worked with Rajnikanth and Dharmendra, left films after experiencing memory loss symptoms

A dazzling actress, who once rose to fame with her debut film and was part of more than 150 films, left the entertainment industry to have a respectable end, as she had symptoms of memory loss. From starring alongside Rajnikanth and Mohanlal, to being part of Bollywood with Rishi Kapoor and Jeetendra, the 58-year-old actress became an indelible part of the media-verse. While she isn’t looking for any major parts in the films, the veteran wishes to do films, but not any stereotypical characters.

The actress: Talent and legacy

Skilled in Kuchipudi classical dance, the ‘Donga Modugu’ actress made her debut in 1983 with ‘Mella Pesungal.’ Over the years, she dominated the southern film industry with her expressive eyes and immense talent. Getting out of her comfort zone, she starred in Hindi films as well, alongside Vinod Khanna, Dharmendra, Mithun Chakraborty, and more. Reigning in the ‘80s, the actress chose subtler and thoughtful roles in the next decade.


In 1998, the ‘Thalapathi’ actress recited her vows with Adarsh Kaushal. However, the duo lived separately since 2005, until he died in 2018, reportedly due to cardiac arrest. The unfortunate loss led her health to worsen, resulting in memory loss. Previously, the actress mentioned her deteriorating health and the reason for leaving the dramatic world. “I am unable to memorise things, which I should be doing. So I dropped out of the dance school and stopped practising dance altogether. I had forgotten my lines during the shoot of ‘Sila Nerangalil Sila Manidhargal’ (2022). This has been happening for about two years,” she said in a 2023 interview with Yagna Murthy Buddhi on YouTube.

Furthermore, the actress shared her desire to act in films again, but good roles – not merely of a mother or small roles. “I am not acting in any movies, as I would like to have a respectable end. I am looking for nice characters, but not mother roles or short roles,” she continued in the interview. Speaking about the speculations and rumors, the actress also spoke about the divorce rumors that surfaced. “My husband and I were not divorced. There are several rumours about the same, but I don’t want to address them now since the person is no more,” she concluded, adding that their 27-year-old daughter is not much into acting in films and lives in London.
