It could well be the dawn of a new era in Tollywood, what with our filmmakers looking out for ways to heighten the audiences' film viewing experience. With two 3D films and even a 4D film in the pipeline, T-towners seem to be intent on exploring new cinematic dimensions. Actress Kriti Kharbanda is all gung ho about seeing herself in 3D for the first time. She is playing the lead opposite Kalyan Ram in 'Om,' touted to be an action flick. 'Well this is my first 3D movie and shooting for it was a great experience. The film has an action backdrop, but is an intense revenge drama. We had a Hollywood crew working on the movie and it has come out really well. There is still a lot of post production work left though,' says Kriti. Facing a 3D camera is quite a challenge says the actress. 'One particular scene was made up of 50 overlapping scenes. It was like 50 different shots rolled into one and I was running into the 3D van after each shot to see how it came out. It was quite an experience. The movie is scheduled to release some time in August or September.'
Gags and more in 3D Close to the release of 'Om', we have Allari Naresh's next flick 'Action' hitting the marquee. Producer Anil Sunkara is directing this movie that's billed as the first ever comedy in 3D. 'A lot of people might be wondering why 3D for a comedy film? Well, the idea is to do something that's never been done before. It is director Anil Sunkara's brain child. Besides situational and dialogue-based comedy, 'Action' will have an additional visual dimension to it. It's going to be a fun film,' says Naresh.
Fourth dimension That's not all. Director Anand Ranga's 'Poga', an experimental horror flick, is looking to break new ground. It will be the first ever 4D feature film in India. If you are wondering what 4D is, director Anand Ranga has an explanation. 'The idea is to combine the 3D effect of the visual along with corresponding physical effects synchronized with the film. For example if somebody is riding a motorcycle on screen the viewer can feel the vibrations and bumps in their seats,' says Anand.
'Poga', it seems, is going to offer its share of chills. It is a horror movie that's about six friends whose past catches up with them in the form of a ghost. 'The sense of horror is surely going to be more heightened than ever. We are collaborating with an American firm which will incorporate the 3D and 4D elements in post-production. If it comes through, the audiences will be able to enjoy 2D, 3D and 4D effects all in the same screen,' says Anand. 'We have identified 12-13 screens in the state where the projection systems will be revamped allowing the lower stalls to have a 2D view, the upper stalls can have the 3D experience with glasses and the recliner seats will have the 4D experience,' he reveals.
