The first film in the ‘Azad Hind franchise’ will feature the untold story of ‘Veerangana Durgawati Devi’, aka ‘Durga Bhabi’ in the first installment.

Durgawati Devi

valiantly fought against the British Raj and inspired many legendary freedom fighters of the future such as ‘Bhagat Singh and Chandrasekhar Azad’. The British secret service office MI 5 called Durga Bhabi "the

Agni of India

".

When Bhagat Singh surrendered himself after the

1929 Assembly

bomb-throwing incident, it was Durgawati Devi who attempted to assassinate Lord Hailey; he escaped, but many of his associates died. She was also caught by the police and imprisoned for three years.

She had sold her ornaments worth Rs. 3,000 to rescue Bhagat Singh and his comrades under the trial. But, after India attained Independence, Durgawati lived a simple life like most common citizens in Ghaziabad, India. She is also said to have started a school for poor children in Lucknow and died on 15th October 1999 at the age of 92.

A star heroine is reported to be playing Dugawati Devi on her biopic. Details regarding the director, other cast & crew will be announced soon.

Vishnu Vardhan Induri is currently bankrolling Kapil Dev’s biopic ‘83’ that stars ‘Ranveer Singh’ & also the ‘Thalaivi’ – biopic of Jayalalithaa on a pan India scale starring Kangana Ranaut.
