Suryakantham movie review highlights: Niharika and her character are a revelation in this one
Pranith Bramandapally's debut film 'Suryakantham', starring Niharika Konidela, Rahul Vijay and
The film that features music by Mark K Robin of 'Awe' fame sees the story of Abhi (Rahul Vijay) whose parents push him to get married to Pooja (Perlene Bhesania). While over time Abhi begins to love Pooja as much as she loves him, he decides to reveal the truth about his ex-girlfriend Suryakantham (Niharika Konidela) before getting married. But what happens when his ex decides to make things complicated for him?
While a major part of the beginning of the film is dedicated to Abhi and Pooja's relationship, taking its own sweet time to set up their characters, the film brings in a kind of laid back humour once Suryakantham enters the scenario. A spunky motormouth who's afraid of commitment, both the character and Niharika are a revelation in this one. Even her introduction scene sees her dancing along to a massy tune, a la many a star in the Mega family, which is sure to delight her fans. Rahul Vijay and Perlene too bring honesty to their roles.
The only grouse in the film so far are the sudden conveniences the director employs to move the story forward and being in some melodrama. Cinematic liberties aside, these plot points hinder the natural flow of the story, sticking out in an otherwise simple narrative. With the debut director having previously directed the web series 'Muddapappu Avakai' and 'Nanna Koochi', the second half will tell if he can pull off his first feature film.
