One among the most successful filmmakers of Telugu cinema, Kodi Ramakrishna breathed his last in Hyderabad today. The veteran

director

was rushed to the AIG hospitals in Gachibowli yesterday morning after complaining of acute breathlessness. Under constant supervision from a team of doctors, he was undergoing treatment in the

Intensive Care Unit

(ICU) and was kept on the

ventilator

(life supporting system). However, his health condition kept on deteriorating and finally, he

passed away

this afternoon due to lung infection.

Kodi Ramakrishna has earlier suffered a heart stroke and paralytic attack, a few years ago. However, with appropriate medical treatment, he fully recovered soon. But luck didn’t favour him this time around.

In an illustrious directorial career spanning for over three decades, Kodi helmed over 100 films across multiple languages like Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi. In 2012, he was conferred with the

Raghupathi Venkaiah Award

for his contribution to Telugu cinema. He hails from Palakollu town in the West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh.

Apart from helming blockbuster films like ‘Muddula Menalludu’, ‘Sathruvu’, ‘Ammoru’ and ‘Arundhati’, the multi-talented filmmaker also starred in a handful of films namely ‘Dongata’, ‘Aasti Mooredu Aasha Baaredu’, ‘Inti Donga’ and ‘Mudilla Muchata’.
