The wait is finally over as the ace filmmaker SS Rajamouli and team have finally revealed the title of his upcoming film as 'Varanasi' featuring Superstar Mahesh Babu, global icon Priyanka Chopra and Malayalam star Prithviraj Sukumaran. The makers announced the tile during the 'Globetrotter' event held at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad on Saturday.
The story seems to be of an archaeologist inspired by Indian mythology who embarks on a global adventure through the lush jungles of the Amazon and parts of Africa. Unlike Rajamouli's past epic films, 'Varanasi' is set to blend action, mystery, and mythology with a jungle exploration theme.
Mahesh Babu plays a rugged explorer in a role quite different from his previous ones. His character is modeled after African folklore heroes and classic Hollywood adventurers like Indiana Jones, making it a fresh type of character for him. The female lead, played by Priyanka Chopra Jonas, portrays Mandakini, a strong, mysterious, and action-oriented character, seen in the first look wearing a bright yellow saree and holding a gun. Prithviraj Sukumaran is cast as the antagonist Kumbha, who is described as a sharp and scientific-minded villain.

The grand “Globe Trotter” event drew about 50,000 fans who witnessed a specially staged live spectacle. A teaser for “Varanasi” was scheduled to play on a massive 130 ft x 100 ft screen but a technical glitch delayed the screening. The clip was eventually showcased to the audience, which greeted it with roars and applause.
The short teaser showed stunning visuals spanning different places and periods -- Antarctica, Varanasi, Kenya, 512 CE, 2027 CE, and even the Threthayuga.
