An actor becoming a director is not a new thing in world cinema, a technician turning into an actor or director is also not a new thing in the film world as several multi-talented actors have taken up more than one job here. But an actor turning into a director featuring himself in the lead role is something very tough to handle and deliver success. However several Telugu actors have pulled off it so easily, let us have a look at them below…!

Sr.NTR – 12 Films
The Legendary Senior NTR has not just directed more than 12 films featuring him in the lead role but also edited, produced and written a few of them. He also directed a Tamil film ‘Kannan Karunai’ with him playing the lead and has written films like ‘Chanda Sasanudu (1983)’.

Bhanumati Ramakrishna – 1 film
Late Veteran multi-talented actress P.Bhanumathi Ramakrishna has not just featured in more than 100 films in Tamil and Telugu but she has written books, composed music, and sung several songs besides producing and directing films. In the year 1953, she directed a film titled ‘Chandi Rani’ featuring her in a dual role alongside Sr.NTR and SV Ranga Rao.

SV Ranga Rao – 2 Films
Late Legendary southern character actor SV Ranga Rao too tried his hands at film direction and directed a couple of films titled ‘Bandhavyalu’, and ‘Chadarangam’, both of which featured him playing pivotal roles in his film.

Savitri Ganesan – 3/5 films
Veteran southern actress Savitri who has acted in more than 252 films in different southern languages has directed 5 films besides producing a few of them. She received State Nandi Best Film Award for her 1968 movie ‘Chinnari Papalu’ in Telugu. of which she starred in pivotal roles in 3 films.

Vijaya Nirmala – Most of them/44 Films
Though Vijaya Nirmala has directed 44 films in multiple languages and set a Guinness Book of World Records she didn’t feature herself in all the films she directed. But she acted in most of them, especially with her husband Krishna. She started her direction with the 1973 film ‘Meena’ and to 2009 film ‘Neramu Siksha’.

Krishna – Most of them/15 movies
Starting with the 1986 film ‘Simhasanam’ to the 2004 Hindi film ‘Ishq Hai Tumse’, Superstar Krishna has directed over 15 films in his career. He also acted as a writer and producer for many of them and was featured in double roles and other pivotal roles in a few of them.

Posani Krishna Murali – A few / 7 Films
Posani Krishna Murali who has acted in several Telugu films was a writer before becoming a film writer. He also wrote, produced and directed a few films and acted in lead roles in them namely films such as Mental Krishna, Posani Gentleman and Rajavari Chepala Cheruvu.

Srinivas Avasarala – 2/3 films
Telugu actor turned writer, and director Srinivas Avasarala has cast himself in an important role in 2 of his directorial films. He also has served as a dialogue writer, for a few others films and both the films that he directed had Naga Shaurya playing the lead roles.

Pawan Kalyan – 1 Film
Telugu Powerstar Pawan Kalyan who made his directional debut with the 2003 Martial arts film 'Johnny'featured himself in the lead role, while his future wife Renu Desai was the female lead.
He also crooned a couple of bit songs in the film titled 'Nuvvu Sara Tagudu Manuranno' and 'Ravoyi Maa Countriky'.

Vishwak Sen – 2 Films
Like all the above actors who tried their hands at the direction, young Telugu actor Vishwak Sen too has directed two Telugu films featuring himself in the lead role. If one is ‘Falaknuma Das’ a remake of the Malayalam film ‘Angamaly Diaries’, the other is ‘Das Ka Dhamki’ which is currently running in theatres that also featured him in double roles.
