Even as the late
SP Balasubrahmanyam
is being laid to rest on Saturday at his farmhouse in Tamaraipakkam in
Tamil Nadu, fans take to social media, requesting the government to bestow the
late singer
with a posthumous
Bharat Ratna
using the hashtag #BharatRatnaForSPB.
Numerous actors and prominent personalities have paid respects to
SP Balu’s mortal remains in person and paid condolences to the family after his passing on Friday afternoon. Actor Arjun was also one of the many who visited and talking to the media there, requested the government to bestow a Bharat Ratna to the late singer.
He said, “He has sung more than forty thousand songs in his career, an impossible feat for any singer. Even if you listen to a song per day, you cannot possible listen to all his songs in a lifetime. He is such a legend, I hope the government of India awards him a Bharat Ratna.” Calling him the pride of our country, he added, “He is undoubtedly the pride of our country and our cinema. He always carried a unique quality in him, to never sing a song which has sleazy lyrics. That was the respect he had for art and we truly lost a legend today. I can define him as an artist with utmost civic responsibility.”
Singer SP Balasubrahmanyam passed away on September 25, 1.04 pm at a private hospital in Chennai. He was infected with
coronavirus and he was admitted to the hospital on August 5. From then on he battled with the virus and was later even on life support. Though the singer tested negative for the virus earlier this month, his health condition remained to be critical and he continued on life support.
