Shruti Haasan discusses menstrual leave Says, 'We can apply it in some professions, but it is very difficult to apply it in cinema'
Shruti Haasan, a celebrated actress and musician known for her work across Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi cinema, recently shared her thoughts on the challenges of implementing menstrual leave in the film industry. During an interview with popular television host Archana Chandhoke, Shruti, who has delivered notable performances in films like, Salaar, Vedalam, Srimanthudu, and 3, discussed this much-debated topic with nuance and insight.
When asked for her perspective, Shruti responded candidly. “I do believe we can apply that in certain situations,” she said. “It is very difficult to apply that in cinema because when you set the dates of a shooting schedule, there are many who are involved. A single shot might involve 500 or 800 artists, and you cannot schedule it according to that. If it’s possible to implement it in other industries, great, really, really good. I have also heard contracts of some senior actresses in Hollywood have those dates marked out so that they don’t do emotional scenes that day. Because already in a state of volatility, you know, as women, it is not in our control. I feel that yes, we can apply it in some professions, but it is very difficult to apply it in cinema. It is not fair also to the budgeting and production.”
