Though a remake is the easiest form of commercial filmmaking, it is always not easy to reprise the magic of the original. ​‘Bachchhan Paandey’ (2022): Jigarthanda (2014)

The 2022 action comedy film ‘Bachchhan Paandey’ directed by Farhad Samji that is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and starring Akshay Kumar, Kriti Sanon, Arshad Warsi and Jacqueline Fernandez is an utter flop at the Bollywood Box-office. The film is a remake of the 2014 Tamil film Jigarthanda directed by Karthik Subbaraj and starring Siddharth, Bobby Simha and Lakshmi Menon.

​‘Cuttputli’ (2022): ‘Ratsasan’ (2018)

2022 Cuttputlli a psychological crime thriller directed by Ranjit M. Tewari is produced by VAshu Bhagnani, and Jackky Bhagnani starring Akshay Kumar and Rakul Preet Singh in the lead roles. The above film is a remake of the 2018 Tamil film ‘Ratsasan’ which failed to impress the audience as the original version.

​‘Nikamma (2022)’: ‘MCA (2017)’

The 2022 Hindi action comedy film written and directed by Sabbir Khan is a remake of the 2017 Telugu film ‘Middle-Class Abbayi’. The film starred Abhimanyu Dassani, Shirley Setia and others playing other important roles in a box-office Bomb at the Hindi cinema besides getting overwhelmingly negative reviews.

​‘Mili’ (2022) : ‘Helen (2019)’

The 2022 Hindi survival thriller film Mili by Mathukutty Xavier is a remake of his Malayalam language film ‘Helen’. The film starred Janhvi Kapoor, Sunny Kaushal and Manoj Pahwa playing the important roles as its music was composed by AR Rahman. However, the film received mixed reviews and poor performance at the box office.

'​Jersey' (2022): 'Jersey' (2019)

The 2022 Hindi sports drama film written and directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri starring Shahid Kapoor, Mrunal Thakur and Pankaj Kapoor in the lead roles is a disaster compared to that of the original version of the ‘Jersey’ starring Nani which is also directed by the same director Gowtam Tinnanuri.

​‘Laxmii’(2020): ‘Kanchana’ (2011)

The 2020 Hindi horror comedy film ‘Laxmii’ starring Akshay Kumar, Kiara Advani, Ayesha Raza Mishra and others playing other important roles in the film is directed by Raghava Lawrence and the above film is a remake of his own 2011 film ‘Kanchana’. The film was a disaster compared to the original which is also directed by Raghava Lawrence.

​‘Baaghi’ (2006): ‘Varsham’ (2004)

‘Baaghi’ is a 2016 Hindi action thriller film directed by Ahmed Khan starring Tiger Shroff, Shraddha Kapoor, Sudheer Babu and Sunil Grover playing important roles in the film is a remake of the 2004 Telugu Prabhas’s film ‘Varsham’. Though the film was financially successful it was heavily trolled for its remake version compared with that of the original.

‘HIT (2020): ‘HIT: The First case’ (2022)

HIT: The First case is an action suspense thriller film written and directed by Sailesh Kolanu in Hindi which is a remake of his original Telugu film of the same name. The Telugu version of the film was a superhit where he couldn’t reprise the magic of the Telugu version in Hindi that had Sanya Malhotra playing the female lead in Hindi.

‘Selfie’ (2023): ‘Driving License’(2019)

The 2023 Hindi language comedy-drama film directed by Raj Mehta is a remake of the 2019 Malayalam film Driving Licence that revolves around the rivalry between an RTO inspector and a prominent actor. Though the film has a unique storyline and screenplay the remake version couldn’t grab the attention of the audiences.

​‘Shehzada’ (2023): ‘Ala Vaikuntapurramulo’ (2020)

The action drama film Shehzada directed by Rohit Dhawan starring Karthik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon is a remake of the Telugu Blockbuster 2020 Telugu film ‘Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo’ that starred Allu Arjun and Pooja Hegde in the lead roles. The remake film that was released on 10th February 2023 was a box-office bomb as it couldn’t reprise the magic of the original.
