Seems like Tollywood’s fascination for crime dramas is never ending, when it comes to exploring new content on OTT platforms! Our filmmakers are keener than ever before diving into the ‘world of crime’ than telling the rooted stories!
We earlier had web series like ‘Rana Naidu’, ‘Puli Meka’,’ Parampara’, ‘Shootout at Alair’, ‘9 Hours’, ‘11th Hour’, etc. The ‘Shaitaan’ is the latest to join the bandwagon of the set of ‘crime universe’.
However, one would question himself why are our filmmakers fascinated with exploring and making hard-hitting crime dramas.
Mahi V Raghav whose upcoming crime web series ‘Shaitaan’ promises a lot of Bold and violent content, and shared that as a filmmaker he loves to dabble and explore various genres in storytelling. He earlier created a family comedy and now the crime drama. He further adds that he is trying his hands at different genre films is only to his repertoire.
"The worst fear of any filmmaker or an actor is that he may get typecast," comments Mahi, adding that ‘Shaitaan’ has a clear disclaimer of showing violent content and profanity.
"If you look at my body of work as a filmmaker, I haven’t repeated any genre of films. As a director, I look at ideas objectively and see if there’s any story that can be told engagingly. Filmmaking is a process that I enjoy and try to bring to life different stories," Mahi comments. The recently released trailer of ‘Shaitaan’ is getting a fabulous response. Thanks to the cuss words in the trailer and some raw scenes and performances of one of the show's leading ladies Deviyani Sharma!
While many appreciated the director for his honest storytelling, he also has been drawing flak for the usage of cuss words in the trailer. However, Mahi defends the scenes and dialogues saying that they are true to the characters' design and circumstances.
