Sekhar Kammula has been stepping up ever since the lockdown to help whoever he can by providing groceries and refreshments.

After helping out the unemployed

and transgender community of Hyderabad with groceries in April, the director has decided to provide refreshments to those hard at work during lockdown in Hyderabad and Kurnool. The GHMC

sanitation workers

, apart from the doctors and police are risking their lives, and he took the initiative of providing them refreshments.

“Watching sanitation workers toil in the summer heat during this lockdown is really heart-breaking. Areas in and around Gandhi hospital, where the patients are quarantined, seem like war-zones and sanitation workers seem like our foot soldiers,” says Sekhar Kammula, adding, “Hundreds of them are relentlessly working in red-zone areas, hotspots and hospitals, risking their lives. We can’t really thank them enough.”

Sekhar Kammula arranged for butter milk or badam milk for 1000 sanitation workers with the help of a dairy company for a period of one month. “The company provided the refreshments at a subsidised price and the GHMC North Zone supervisors took up the challenge of distributing drinks to these workers every day. It’s been a week since we started this programme,” he adds.

The

director is also extending the initiative to Kurnool Municipal Corporation. He also urged students and youngsters to pool money and reach out to municipal corporation supervisors to help out the sanitation and migrant workers.
