Renowned Telugu actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu is facing criticism after being accused of spreading misinformation about liver detoxification to her followers. A liver doctor, known as The Liver Doc on X, called out Samantha for featuring an alleged 'health illiterate' on her health podcast series. In a lengthy post, the doctor shared a 45-second video from Samantha's podcast where her guest discussed the use of herbs like dandelion for liver health.
The Liver Doc criticized Samantha and her guest for promoting false information about liver detoxification.

He highlighted the lack of scientific evidence supporting the use of dandelion for improving liver health and clarified that the herb is primarily considered a weed and used in salads. While dandelion may have some health benefits according to traditional medicine, there is insufficient human evidence to support its effectiveness as a liver detoxifier.

He wrote, "This is Samantha Ruth Prabhu, a film star, misleading and misinforming over 33 million followers on 'detoxing the liver'."
He added, "The podcast features some random health-illiterate "Wellness Coach & Performance Nutritionist" who has absolutely no clue how the human body works and has the most rubbish content on his Instagram handle, including complete nonsense such as herbs to manage autoimmune disorders. I am a liver doctor, a trained and registered hepatologist who has been diagnosing and treating liver disease patients for one decade, and this is complete and utter BS.".

Samantha has not responded publicly to the criticism as of yet. However, the controversy has sparked a debate on social media about the responsibility of celebrities to share health information with their followers.
Samantha Ruth Prabhu recently announced that she had taken a 1-year break from work after she was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, myositis. During her time away from work, she focused on her mental health and her physical fitness.
She will be next seen in the upcoming web series 'Citadel: India' alongside Varun Dhawan.
