A doctor by profession, Nageswara Rao Kolla had no plans of becoming a film producer. A chance encounter with actor
Dilip Kumar two years ago was instrumental in the general physicians tryst with showbiz. Dilip and I used to interact through a social networking site and pretty soon, we became good friends. Later, I got to know that he was really eager to become an actor, and when he asked me if I would buy the remake rights of a Malayalam film, Thattathin Marayathu, I took the plunge and became a producer.
He was instrumental in finalising the budget, and did extensive pre-production work, long before we began shooting the film, says Nageswara Rao, narrating the backstory of how he became producer of Saheba Subramanyam.
After spending 14 years, as a doctor in the UK, the experience of producing a film came with its share of challenges. I faced the same challenges like any newcomer. I have a secure job abroad, so I could afford to take the risk. Despite all this, we did go through a rough time in terms of staying within the budget; but on the whole, it was a fantastic experience, he says.
Talking about the film, which stars Dilip Kumar and
Priyal Gor, Nageswara Rao reveals, Every day was a challenge. Not everything goes to plan and you have to spend a lot of time managing resources and time properly. While Dilip and Priyal were shooting an intimate scene, all of a sudden, the hero burst out laughing in the middle of the shot. I didn't have a clue about what had happened and its only later that I came to know that such things are quite common in the industry. The film was shot in 38 working days and I think it is quite an achievement since none of us had any prior experience. It is a beautiful love story.
Saheba Subramanyam, produced by Dr Nageswara Rao Kolla and presented by Dr Suvarna Kolla under Indo English Productions, is releasing on December 13.
