OTT (Over-the-Top) platforms are becoming increasingly popular amongst viewers, as they give them access to a wide variety of content at any time and from any location. This has made OTT platforms a great alternative to traditional cable or satellite TV packages, which can often be expensive and restrictive. The most-watched movie on OTT platforms in 2022 was RRR, starring Jr NTR, Ram Charan, Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn. The epic action-thriller was released on a popular OTT platform in May and quickly became one of the most-watched movies on the streaming service. It has been viewed by over 500 million watch minutes around the world. Set in 1920s pre-independence India, the film depicts the story of two legendary freedom fighters, Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem, who fought against the British Raj. The film narrates their story and the events that led them to become revolutionaries. It has collected Rs 1200 crore worldwide.

The next most-watched movie on an OTT platform is Vakeel Saab, starring power star Pawan Kalyan, Shruti Haasan, Anjali, Ananya Nagalla, Nivetha Thomas and Prakash Raj. Directed by Sriram Venu, the movie has become a blockbuster hit, surpassing 120 million views on a well-known OTT platform. For the unversed, Vakeel Saab is a remake of the 2016 Hindi film Pink. The film follows a lawyer who takes up a case of three young women who were harassed by a powerful politician’s sons and were falsely accused of a crime they didn’t commit. It deals with the social issues of gender inequality, gender violence and patriarchy. The film was released theatrically on 9 April 2021, to positive reviews from critics. It was a commercial success, grossing over Rs 147 crore worldwide.

'Nishabdham' is a psychological thriller film, directed by Hemanth Madhukar and stars Anushka Shetty, Madhavan, Anjali, Shalini Pandey, Subbaraju and Srinivas Avasarala. The story follows the life of a mute artist, played by Anushka Shetty, who finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation that involves her husband, Madhavan. An investigation by a police officer, played by Anjali, leads to a series of mysterious events that create a suspenseful, twist-filled journey. The film combines elements of mystery, suspense, and thriller to create an engaging story that is sure to keep viewers on the edge of their seats. The film, released directly on an OTT on October 2, 2020, was an instant hit and has since become one of the most-watched movies on streaming platforms of all time, with 90 million views.

'Narappa' is a period-action drama written and directed by Srikanth Addala. It stars Venkatesh and Priyamani in the lead roles with Prakash Raj, Murali Sharma, and Nassar in supporting roles. The film has achieved success in the online streaming platform (OTT) due to its popularity. It has emerged as one of the most-watched Telugu movies with an estimated viewership of 85 million views. Narappa is a remake of the Tamil-language film Asuran (2019). The story revolves around Narappa (Venkatesh Daggubati), who is a farmer and lives a peaceful life with his family until his land is taken away from him. He sets out on a mission to reclaim his land and bring justice to his family. The film is expected to be an intense drama with a lot of action and emotion.

'Maharshi' is an inspirational action drama written and directed by Vamshi Paidipally starring Mahesh Babu, Pooja Hegde and Allari Naresh in the lead roles. The film follows the story of Rishi, a son of a farmer who returns to his homeland to fight against the injustice and inequality suffered by farmers and the village. The film was released on 9 May 2019 with positive reviews from critics. The film had 75 million viewers and was placed fifth on the list of most-watched Telugu movies. It received two National Film Awards in the Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment and Best Choreography categories.
