Legendary choreographer
Saroj Khan who has composed dance for over 2000 songs in the Hindi film industry has breathed her last on Friday due to cardiac arrest. The 71-year-old veteran was admitted to the Guru Nanak Hospital in Mumbai on June 17 after complaining of breathing issues. “She passed away due to cardiac arrest at around 2:30 am at the hospital,” Ms Khan's nephew Manish Jagwani told news agency PTI.
Fondly called as ‘Masterji’ among film circles, Saroj Khan was known to be a hard taskmaster and no-nonsense teacher when it came to dance. With her brilliant choreography, she delivered some of the most memorable songs of Hindi cinema to actresses like Sridevi and
Madhuri Dixit which became instrumental in shaping up their respective careers.
In an illustrious career spanning for over four decades, Saroj Khan composed dance moves for close to 2000 songs and won the National Award three times for Devdas, Sringaram and Jab We Met.
