Prashanth Neel reveals he was disappointed when the censor board gave Salaar 'A' certificate: I didn’t make a vulgar movie
Director Prashanth Neel, along with actors Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran, engaged in a conversation with director SS Rajamouli ahead of the release of Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire on December 22. The discussion covered various aspects, including the film's narrative, characters, and the actors' involvement. One notable topic was Prashanth's revelation about the film receiving an adult certificate.
While explaining the reason behind Salaar's A certification from the Censor Board, Prashanth clarified that despite the lawless and violent nature of the fictional land of Khansar, the primary focus was on depicting the story of Deva and Vardha and their childhood friendship.
He described Salaar as a drama at its core and expressed his surprise the censor board asked him to make certain cuts. He emphasized that the violence in the film was comparatively subdued, adding that the idea was never to make a film so violent it gets an A certificate. He got so quiet when the censor board said that because he didn’t make a vulgar movie. He said that the violence in the film is needed and he was disappointed. But Prabhas reassured him, stating that it was acceptable and part of the storytelling.
As the trailer and stills from Salaar raised questions about the similarity in color palettes with KGF, Prashanth clarified that the films were not connected. He explained that the intention was to portray the dark and gritty world the characters inhabit.
They all realized later his own obsession with monochrome. Prithviraj and Prabhas jokingly discussed Prashanth's meticulous attention even to different shades of black, with Prabhas noting they went along with it as the director's vision.
The film's setting is the city of Khansar undergoing a power shift, with Vardha seeking assistance from his childhood friend Deva when his ascension is threatened. Shruti Haasan and Jagapathi Babu play significant roles, and the film features music by Ravi Basrur. Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire is scheduled for release on December 22.
