Prabhas starrer 'Kalki 2898 AD' to release on TV

The 2024 blockbuster film, 'Kalki 2898 AD' directed by Nag Ashwin generated mammoth numbers at the box office with its storyline, visuals and a star-studded cast including the Rebel star Prabhas, Bollywood's diva Deepika Padukone and veteran actors Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan in the lead. The movie, nearly seven months after its release, will be making its debut on television.

As per the latest media reports, since its theatrical release on June 27, 2024, 'Kalki 2898' AD is set to make its television debut on Zee Telugu on January 12, 2025, at 5:30 PM as part of the Sankranti celebrations. This premiere comes after multiple delays in securing a deal for its satellite rights.

Set in a dystopian future in the year 2898 AD, the film explores themes of good versus evil through its protagonist. The film's plot is inspired by Hindu scriptures and aims to blend mythology with futuristic storytelling.

The story begins after the Kurukshetra War, where Ashwatthama, played by Amitabh Bachchan, is cursed by Lord Krishna for attempting to kill an unborn child. This curse condemns him to wander the earth as an immortal, witnessing humanity's decline during the Kali Yuga. His redemption is tied to protecting the mother of Kalki, who is prophesied to be the final avatar of Vishnu.

It also includes notable performances from Anna Ben and Rajendra Prasad, with cameos from Dulquer Salmaan, Vijay Deverakonda and Mrunal Thakur. Keerthy Suresh voices Bujji, Prabhas' character's side kick which is a robo car.

The film made over Rs 762 crore in India and over Rs 1042crore worldwide as per Sacnilk.
