Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condoled the death of veteran Telugu actor Krishna, who passed away in the wee hours on Tuesday.

He has taken to his personal Twitter handle and wrote the below in Krishna's mother tongue Telugu,

"Krishna Garu was a legendary superstar, who won people's hearts through his versatile acting and lively personality. His demise is a colossal loss to the world of cinema and entertainment. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with @urstrulyMahesh and his entire family," Modi tweeted.

Popularly known as Superstar Krishna, he ruled the Telugu film world during the 1960s, 70s and 80s.


The Father of actor Mahesh Babu, Krishna breathed his last at 4:10 am on Tuesday. He was 79.

Some of his well-known films are 'Alluri Seetharama Raju', 'Mosagallaku Mosagadu' and 'Gudachari 116' among others.

Superstar Krishna who has acted in more than 350 films also directed and edited a few other films besides producing many technological firsts in the Telugu film industry. He also has reportedly introduced a few western film genres into Telugu cinema such as CowBoy, Spy/Detective and JamesBond. Krishna directed 17 feature films and produced many films under his Padmalaya Studios production company along with his brothers Adiseshagiri Rao and Hanumantha Rao. Krishna was one of the highest-paid Telugu actors during his time.

The above biographical film on the freedom fighter ‘Alluri Seetharama Raju (1974)’ by Krishna under his home banner Padmalaya studios marked his 100th film. The film is considered to be the first cinema scope film in Telugu. The film later ended up as the highest grossing Telugu film of that year.

Krishna’s yet another film ‘Eenadu’ made in 1982 has reportedly introduced yet other new technology to colour grade the film. And though ‘Eenadu’ Telugu film industry started using Eastman colour grading technology for all the films until it was replaced by colour processing labs and digital technologies.

This Krishna’s epic historical fim written, directed, edited, produced and acted by Krishna along side Jaya Prada, Radha and Mandakini was simultaneously made in Hindi as Singhasan and the film was successful at the box-office.

This time Superstar Krishna’s focus went on sound design and he introduced newly found Ditial theaer system in the us and incorporated the same Technology in this movie revoulutionary film ‘Telugu Veera Levara’ DTS was later replaced by its competitor Dolby sound technology.

This western action film directed by KSR Das has its screen play written by Aarudra. The film is said to have run for 100 days and was subsequently dubbed into Tamil and Hindi besides having a trimmed Hindi version.
