Tollywood actor Pawan Kalyan mourned the passing of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar on Sunday afternoon.

The Tollywood star released a statement to the press that reads, “It is heartbreaking to hear of

Lata

Mangeshkar’s passing because I had expected her to bounce back with good health. When the hospital released statements that she was recovering well, I had hoped she would be released soon. Though she sang only two

songs

in

Telugu

, they both remain memorable even today. Her whole journey and the story of how she made it big in the world of singing by facing all odds is awe-inspiring. Rest in peace, Lata ji.”

Lata Mangeshkar had first sung a song in Telugu for the 1955 film Santhanam. Ghantasala was her co-singer while Susarla Dakshinamurthy was the music composer. The film starred Akkineni Nageswara Rao (

ANR

) and incidentally her next Telugu song would be for her son

Nagarjuna

in the 1988 film Aakhari Poratam. SP Balasubrahmanyam, whom she had sung many hit songs with was her co-singer with Ilaiyaraaja composing the music. Her first song was titled Nidduropora Thammuda and the second one was titled Tellacheeraku.

Lata Mangeshkar was hospitalised early in January after testing positive for

Covid-19

and was in the ICU following a bout of pneumonia. She was on her way to recovery but her health worsened on February 5 before her passing on February 6. Numerous Tollywood celebs took to social media to mourn her loss.
