'Oh Baby': Five reasons why you should watch Samantha and Lakshmi starrer

Nandini Reddy’s Telugu and Tamil remake of the Korean film ‘Miss Granny’, titled ‘Oh Baby’ and starring Samantha and Lakshmi in lead roles releases this Friday.

With the film being the first Indian remake of the Korean film, expectations are high on this one not just from Samantha fans, but even those who have watched the original and fallen in love with the story. While Asian film fans and Samantha’s tribe have enough reasons to watch the film, we give you five reasons why you should:

The fantasy of it all
How often does one see on-screen the story of a 70-year-old turned into a 24-year-old, especially on Indian and Telugu screen? It’s also rare to find a story which allows an old woman to be the central protagonist, even if she turns young later on, getting a second chance at life. Plus, the story of Bebakka sounds interesting, something which needs to be seen on-screen.


Nandini Reddy’s directionDespite a small list of filmography, it can be rest assured that most Telugu movie buffs have at some point of their lives watched and fallen in love with Nani and Nithya Menen starrer ‘Ala Modalaindi’. Even if her consequent films Siddharth and Samantha starrer ‘Jabardast’ and Naga Shaurya and Malavika Nair starrer ‘Kalyana Vaibhogame’ didn’t click, the trailer hints at her really pulling off this one.

The cast’s acting prowess ‘Oh Baby’ features a stellar cast not just in the lead actors Samantha and Lakshmi, but also with names like Naga Shaurya, Rao Ramesh, Rajendra Prasad and Jagapathi Babu. With most of them being veteran actors who are some of the best in their craft and even comedy, it can only be assumed that they will pull off their roles with consummate ease. Even if that requires Rao Ramesh play the son of a young woman like Samantha!

The relatable factorSamantha was quoted saying by various reports how the film made her think of how she has never asked her mother what she wanted from life, other than marriage and children. The film explores the same concept, and with everyone of us having mothers and grandmothers in our lives who have sacrificed much for us, it’s hard for the concept to not be relatable.

Women powerApart from producer Sunitha, Nandini, Lakshmi, Samantha and Chinmayi, who’s dubbing for the actress in Tamil, the project also has a lot of female crew and technicians attached to it. “It was a conscious decision on mine and Nandini’s part to have as many women on our team as possible. There was a movement in the industry when we began this project and many would ask us if their daughters can even work here. I would only tell them that it’s not easy, it takes strength and courage,” producer Sunitha told Hyderabad Times, adding, “I have seen the industry change for women over the years, there’s a lot of acceptance. So it was a definitely a conscious effort on our part for inclusivity.”
