Nandamuri
Balakrishna
’s tryst with mythological films is known to one and all. In 2004, the popular actor of Telugu cinema turned into a director and launched his most ambitious project ‘
Narthanasala
’ in a star-studded opening ceremony at Hyderabad. Featuring an ensemble cast, the shooting took place for quite a few days before it was shelved due to the tragic death of leading lady
Soundarya in a helicopter crash. Thereafter, the Nandamuri scion decided to drop the idea of reviving the project with another actress.
In his latest statement on social media, Balakrishna announced that 17 minutes of footage shot for ‘Narthanasala’ will be releasing on an OTT platform on the occasion of Dussehra (October 24). He also added that a percentage of profit made out of this online release will be donated for charity works.

While Soundarya played the role of Draupadi in the mythological film, Balakrishna will be seen in three roles (Arjuna, Bruhannala, and Keechakudu). Late actors
Srihari and
Uday Kiran essayed the roles of Bheemudu and Abhimanyudu respectively. While Sarath Kumar played Dharmaraju, Asin was finalised for the role of Uttara. The project was shelved after a few days of shoot.
In 2017, Balakrishna has denied the rumours of reviving ‘Narthanasala’. He said “I believe some roles are meant for only some particular actors. For example, I can't imagine anyone else other than
Nayanthara as Seetha in Sri Ramarajyam. Similarly, the Seetha's role in Narthanasala was meant for Soundarya and since she passed away, I don't think I want to revive that project now. It's not going to happen.”
