Devastated by the tragic demise of her stepmother-in-law, Mahesh Babu’s wife Namrata Shirodkar posted a heartfelt tribute on Instagram to the late trailblazer of Telugu cinema. In her eulogy piece, the former Bollywood actress referred Vijay Nirmala as a “visionary and truly ahead of her time.”
"For me, she was a woman of substance... A woman I travelled with for 14 years of my married life... She was a warm, loving and caring soul... She was strong, brave, fun-loving and full of life! Her zest for life was uncompromised... She was a visionary and truly ahead of her time in her thoughts and deeds... This was Vijaya Nirmala garu for me!" read an excerpt from Namrata's note.

"She was a pillar of strength for her family and her loved ones... Today I wish her a beautiful journey ahead and send her all the love and light I possibly can... You will be terribly missed, Vijaya Nirmala garu. It's truly unimaginable to know that I will never see you again. #RIPVijayaNirmalaGaru," she added.
After kicking-off her celluloid journey as a child artist in 1950, Vijaya Nirmala went on to become a lead actress in South cinema with 200+ films across multiple languages like Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam. While enjoying a fruitful tenure as a heroine, she shifted her focus towards direction and helmed 44 films in Tollywood. In 2002, she entered the Guinness Book of Records as the female director with the most number of film credits. In less than a decade, she received the Raghupathi Venkaiah Award for her contribution to Telugu cinema.
