Chennai's music lovers can expect to tune in for a jolly good spell of enchating music in the coming days! Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth (SPICMACAY) will organise around 100 events in Chennai and other cities of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry as part of its VIRASAT festival in schools and colleges. The festival, a series of cultural events, will feature performances by Ustad Jamil Khan Manganiyar & Group, a well known Rajasthani folk & Sufi music group, in Chennai.
The group consists of six musicians led by Ustad Jamil Khan Manganiyar and one lady Kalbeliya dancer. The group will perform Meera and Kabir odes to the tune of Rajasthani folk music and Sufi songs.
These shows are aimed at a youth audience, to expose them to the wonders of the various Indian art forms, but the general public will be allowed as well. There will be one show every day starting from November 6 till November 11.
