Over the years, Telugu cinema has witnessed several

and adorable presence on the silver screen. Our hearts root for them throughout the runtime and we always want them to have a happy ending. There was a time in Tollywood when the on-screen chemistry between a hero and the heroine was limited to dancing around the trees, and then came the time when smooches and passionate love scenes were an essential ingredient in almost every other film.

Oh Prema from Devi Putrudu
‘Devi Putrudu’ happened to be the last collaboration between Venkatesh and Soundarya in their memorable celluloid journey. The 2001 fantasy-drama which released three months after ‘Jayam Manade Raa’ received a mixed response at the box-office. However, the portions featuring both these versatile actors garnered immense applause from the viewers and their adorable chemistry was unanimously praised in Oh Prema. The romantic number crooned by SP Balasubrahmanyam and Gopika Poornima struck the right chord with the listeners and surprisingly, people thronged into theatres only to witness this soothing video song.
Kavvinchake O Prema from Raja The sensational success of Muppalaneni Shiva’s ‘Raja’ in 1999 is quite evident to every film lover of Telugu cinema. The romantic-drama managed to garner a cult following over the years with its emotional connect and brilliant performances. Till today, Raja stands as one among the few Indian movies to constantly rake in good TRPs when telecasted on TV. All songs composed by SA Rajkumar turned out to become instant blockbusters and the chemistry shared between Venkatesh and Soundarya in Kavvinchake O Prema struck the bull’s eye with the masses.
Mayadari Mayadari Andama from Pavitra Bandham
Shot in the exotic locales of Switzerland, Mayadari Mayadari Andama is composed by musical maestro MM Keeravani with SP Balu and Sujatha singing through Sirivennela Sitarama Sastry’s lyrics. Directed by Muthyala Subbaiah in 1996, the romantic-drama recorded a phenomenal success at the box-office and established Venkatesh & Soundarya as a successful lead pair. Besides bagging three Nandi awards, Pavitra Bandham became the first Indian movie to be remade in six languages. In the Bollywood version, Anil Kapoor and Kajol have reprised the lead roles.
Meriseti Jaabili from Jayam Manadera
Directed by N Shankar in 2000, Jayam Manadera is the fifth blockbuster in the combination of Venkatesh and Soundarya. Featuring the Victory Star in dual roles, the action-drama registered a thumping victory at the ticket counters and all the scenes canned in the Europe schedule received a fantabulous response from all quarters. All songs composed by Vandemataram Srinivas turned out to become chartbusters and especially, Meriseti Jaabili crooned by Kumar Sanu and Swarnalatha went well with the audience.
Apurupamainadamma Aadajanma from Pavitra Bandham This emotional song sung by the legendary KJ Yesudas is widely regarded as one among the best sentiment numbers in Telugu cinema. In the role of Radha, Soundarya goes out of her way to look after her husband Vijay (Venkatesh) when he meets with an accident. The story of Pavitra Bandham revolves around contract marriages and the role of wives in it. While the emotional-drama bagged the Nandi Award for the Best Feature Film, Soundarya and SP Balu acquired gold for the Best Actress and Best supporting role respectively.
