‘Yamaleela’
Released in 1994, the movie is a fantasy comedy directed by SV Krishna Reddy, where the main lead, Suraj, is a mischievous young man who wants to make his widowed mother happy. To accomplish his goal, he buys back the palace, his ancestral home. Question: Where did he get so much money? The protagonist gets hold of a magical book that belongs to Yama, the god of death, which can predict the future, and helps him earn. The film includes Ali, Indraja, Kaikala Satyanarayana, Brahmanandam, Tanikella Bharani, Manju Bhargavi, and Kota Srinivasa Rao among others.

‘Naani’
Coming from the 90s to a 2000’s flick, ’Naani’ starring Mahesh Babu has family sentiments with an added flavour of fantasy and sci-fi. This combination also makes it an interesting watch on Mother’s Day, as the film revolves around the mother-son angle and the idea of a child trapped in an adult body. The basic premise of the film is about an 8-year-old boy who is unhappy with his life and asks a scientist for help to become an adult overnight. It stars Mahesh Babu, Ameesha Patel, Devayani, Raghuvaran, Nassar, Brahmanandam, Sunil, Ravi Babu, Kota Srinivasa Rao, and Aishwarya.

‘Chatrapathi’
From the same 2000’s era, another action drama. The film ‘Chatrapathi’ stars Prabhas and was helmed by SS Rajamouli, his ‘Baahubali’ director. The film shows Prabhas’ character Shivaji struggling after being separated from his mother and falsely declared dead by his brother. His character’s journey shows him becoming a feared and respected figure under tough situations. The film is remembered for its core theme about a protagonist's desire to reunite with his mother. It also features Shriya Saran, Bhanupriya, Shafi, and Pradeep Rawat in main roles, with supporting appearances from others.

‘Bichagadu’
Jumping a few years ahead, the movie ‘Bichagadu,’ released in 2016 tells the story of a wealthy businessman whose mother falls into a coma after an accident. A priest tells him she can recover only if he lives as a beggar for 48 days, so he gives up his comfortable life and starts living as a beggar. The film is an action-drama thriller starring Vijay Antony and Satna Titus. Originally made in Tamil, the film is the Telugu dubbed version, which became a hit.
