Gone are the times when directors would make actors get into the shoes of the same characters again and again in different movies in order to call audience to the theaters. Typecasting is now perceived as a bane for any actor, because with time, the actor might be characterized as clichéd and boring for playing the same roles. Typecasting also draws limits to the kind of roles an actor would play.
Mandira Bedi, who will be seen in
Prabhas’ next titled ‘Saaho’ as an antagonist is a victim of typecasting too. She had been playing stereotyped roles of a police officer every time. Mandira, who recently wrapped up the shoot for a Tamil film titled ‘Adangathey’ in which she is playing a cop, said that people cannot imagine her in any other roles than that of a police officer or any negative character. “I am stuck in stereotype courtesy my short hair,” she said.
However, she doesn’t she want to change her hairstyle to grab different roles. She is a lover, a mother, a wife in real life – then why can't she play the same on screen, questions the 45-year-old actor. She strongly feels that it’s the stereotype that needs to go, not her hairstyle.
