Sharing the trailer on his social media,

Nagarjuna

wrote, “Wishing @mammukka all the best for his prestigious #mamankam.” (sic) The 2-minute-21-seconds long trailer sees Mammootty play the role of a warrior. Based on a true story of a festival called Mamangam, the film is slated for release not just in

Malayalam

but also in Telugu,

Tamil

and

Hindi

– making it the first Malayalam film to release in four languages.

For the uninitiated, Mamangam was a religious festival that was held once every twelve years at Thirynavya, on the banks of Bharatpuzha in Kerala. For 280 years, fierce battles were waged by a few men against the mighty king during the festival and the film will showcase the story of one such unknown hero. Set in 1695, Mamangam will showcase action sequences featuring Kalaripayattu – the oldest Indian martial art, choreographed by Sham Kaushal.

With music by M Jayachandran and BGM by Sanchit Balhara and Ankit Balhara, ‘Mamangam’ also stars Unni Mukundan, Prachi Tehlan, Siddique, Achuthan, Anusitara, Iniya, Kaniha, Tarun Arora, Suresh Krishna, Manikuttan, Sudev Nair and Manikandan in key roles. Further details are awaited.
