Continuing the trend of biopics in Telugu cinema, the biographical film on late Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy titled ‘Yatra’ has finally hit the theaters on February 8. Starring Malayalam superstar
Mammootty in the lead role of the iconic Telugu politician, the multi-lingual flick directed by
Mahi V Raghav opened to an overwhelming response from viewers. Despite mixed reviews, the film is doing decent business in the United States and both the Telugu states.
Meanwhile, the lack of response from the Telugu film fraternity towards ‘Yatra’ has hurt the sentiments of YSR fans. Taking to social media, many of them have openly expressed their anger on celebrities for not mentioning the film on their social handles. However, Mahi V Raghav was quick to react on the on-going issue.
The ‘Anando Brahma’ maker shared a heartfelt note on Twitter which read “It hurts to see the fans and admirers of YSR with all their good intentions wanting celebrities to endorse or acknowledge Yatra. I tell a story for the joy of telling it. The moment we seek other acceptance or acknowledgement, we become beggars”.
Concluding the note, the talented filmmaker expressed his gratitude to the story, producers and the audience for giving an opportunity to tell an inspiring story. Besides a glimpse on the life and times of YSR, Yatra majorly emphasised on his 1475-Km historic padayatra that changed the course of politics in unified Andhra Pradesh.
