The 2010 political drama,
Prasthanam, won the then one-film-old filmmaker
Deva Katta a lot of critical acclaim. However, having delivered two box office duds thereafter '
Autonagar Suryaand
Dynamite, the director has now decided to get his act together. 'I am going to make a film I believe in and I am going to give precedence to the script over anything else this time. I know what went wrong with my earlier endeavours. I am not going to compromise on my vision at any cost,' he says talking about his upcoming project
Maha Prasthanam, the teaser of which he unveiled recently on social media.
When quizzed if the film is a sequel to
Prasthanam, he responds, 'No. it isn't. I have picked the same theme for the film ' the struggle for power. Many stories can be told around a single theme and that doesn't make this film a continuation of my earlier film. The name may mislead but then it might not be the final title too. I have just titled it tentatively.'
The director insists that the film will have
The Godfather influence in the subject line. 'The film's key layer will be the economics of power and legacy. The ambience of the film will be a little more stylised and there will be a new story told. I am still working on all those nitty-gritties,' he quips.
Ever since he announced the film, several names ' like Gopichand and Sharwanand ' for the film's lead role have cropped up but Katta, when asked, chose to keep cards close to his chest. 'I have an intense subject at hand and I am considering several names. Not just a young actor, but I am looking at a cross-combination of a senior actor who will be very pivotal to the story. I am looking for actors even from Kannada, Malayalam and Tamil industries for this role,' he says.
