Piracy is a big issue in the cinema industry as it can threaten a major part of the earnings. The
Madras High Court has given major relief to the makers of
Ram Charan starrer upcoming Telugu film ‘Peddi.’ The court passed an anti-piracy order to stop the illegal upload, copying, transmission, or release of the movie on the internet before and after its theatrical release.
According to a report by the Bar and Bench, the order was passed by Justice V Lakshminarayanan during a hearing held on Wednesday evening. The case was filed by the producer of the film, who approached the court seeking protection against piracy and copyright violations.
The makers requested strict action against people and websites that may try to leak or share the movie illegally online.
Court stops illegal sharing of film
After checking the case documents and evidence submitted by the producers, the court observed that the makers had spent huge amounts of money on the film’s production and promotions.
The court said that if the movie gets leaked online without permission, it could cause serious financial loss and damage to the producers. Because of this, the court decided to grant interim protection to the film.
The order stops unknown individuals, websites, and online platforms from uploading, sharing, copying, or distributing the movie illegally through the internet.
What is an Ashok Kumar order?
The High Court also granted what is called an “Ashok Kumar order.”
This type of order is usually given in piracy and copyright cases where the identities of people involved in illegal activities are not known in advance.
It helps filmmakers take quick legal action against anyone who leaks or circulates pirated copies of a film online. Such orders have become common in the
film industry, especially before the release of big-budget movies.
The court granted this interim injunction for four weeks. The matter will now be heard again after that period.
