List of Telugu films with caste-based movie titles

Caste is a fixed social group into which an individual is born within the particular system of social stratification and these Individuals are expected to marry exclusively within the same caste. It has its origins in ancient India and a few other parts of the world and was transformed by various ruling elites in medieval, modern India.

However, an affirmative action programme has been taken by the Indian government as enforced through its constitution. The caste system has been criticised from both within and outside of India and has become a major controversy in the Politics of India as many political parties are indulged in caste-based vote bank politics.

Many films in Indian cinema came with reformist principles. However, below are a few Indian Telugu films that are made with caste-based names, have a look at the below-compiled list of such films.

Pedda Kapu (2023)

'Peddha Kapu' is an upcoming film by Srikanth Addala, the film is being produced by Miryala Ravinder Reddy and the first look of the film has been out. The film is coming in 2 parts that star Virat Karrna in the lead role, more details of the movie are yet to be revealed...!

​‘Chennakesava Reddy’ (2002)

‘Chennakesava Reddy’ is a 2002 Telugu action comedy film written and directed by V.V. Vinayak that starred Nandamuri Balakrishna, Tabu, and Shriya Saran in the lead roles. The film dealt with Rayalaseema factionism, where the followers of powerful factionist Chennakesava Reddy genuflect before his idol and eagerly await his arrival after 22 years. Finally, the movie ends on a happy note with his Bharat continuing his father's legacy.

Naidugaari Kutumbam (1996)

'Naidugari Kutumbam' is a 1996 Telugu film written by Guhanathan (story), and Paruchuri Brothers (Dialogues) that is directed by Boina Subbarao the film talks about Krishnama Naidu's family and his three younger brothers and one younger sister.

Bhaktavatsalam who was encouraged and raised with the financial support of the above family tries to trouble Naidu's family the rest of the story is all about how the younger brother completes their mind game.

'Samara Simha Reddy' (1999)

'Samarasimha Reddy'(1999) is an action drama film written by V.Vijayendra Prasad, Ratna Kumar and Paruchuri Brothers, and directed by B. Gopal.

The film stars Nandamuri Balakrishna in the titular role alongside Anajala Zaveri, Simran, and Sanghavi playing other important roles. The film is a revenge action drama between Samara Simha Reddy and Veera Raghava Reddy.

Narasimha Naidu

'Narasimha Naidu'(2001) is an Indian Telugu language action drama film written by Chinni Krishna, directed by B. Gopal. The film stars Nandamuri Balakrishna, Simran, Preeti Jhangiani, Asha Saini and others playing other important roles.

The film talks about a family feud between two neighbouring villages that ensues in the Visakhapatnam district where Rahupati Naidu and Appala Naidu are staunch Rivals.

'Pedarayuudu'(1995)

This 1995 Telugu drama film 'Pedarayudu' by Ravi Raja Pinisetty is a remake of the 1994 Tamil film 'Nattamai' The film also recorded an 'Industry' hit that tells the story of three brothers who are inseparable and always thrive for well being of the people in their village, however they’ll have to go through various hurdles to prove their honesty forms rest of the story. it is said to be the last Rajini's direct film in Telugu to date.

Kshatriya Putrudu (1992)

This is a 1992 Telugu dubbed Tamil film by Bharat starring Kamal Haasan (also story). The film tells the story of a London-educated Saktivelu who returns to India and wants to open a chain of restaurants in Chennai. His father, however, wishes that he would stay back and help the villagers.

Sivarama Raju

The above is a 2002 action drama film by V.Samudra that starred Nandamuri Harikrishna, Jagapathi Babu, Venkat, Sivaji, Monica and others playing other important roles is actually a remake of the Tamil film Samudhiram (2000).

The film has its dialogues penned by Paruchuri Brothers has its music composed by SA Rajkumar. The film tells the story of head of a family and his two brothers who are ready to give up their lives for him.

Rayala Seema Ramanna Chowdary (2000)

Rayala Seema Ramanna Chowdary is a film made about a pious man who wants to build a temple on his property but it was resisted by a wealthy but unscrupulous land owner to acquire the land. The film story is said to be written by Rajinikanth for Mohan Babu and it was directed by Suresh Krishna.

​Mala Pilla (1938)

'Mala Pilla' (1938) is directed by Gudavalli Ramabrahmam, the film deals with the tensions in a village between Brahmins and Dalits over water usage and temple entry. However, later the relationship between the main leads, a Mala woman and a Brahmin man both elope together which creates tension between the communities. However, in the end, a sense of peace is achieved when the Dalits save the head priest’s wife from a fire accident. Following this the head priest changes his heart and approves his son’s marriage to the Mala (Scheduled Caste) woman, and the film ends with the entry of Dalits into their village temple.

Kamma Rajyamlo Kadapa Redlu (2019)

This controversial political satire film by Siddhartha Thatolu and RGV is funded by Ajay Mysore. The film title was later changed to 'Amma Rajyam lo Kadapa Biddalu'due to the censor issues and a petition was filed in Telangana High Court to change the title of the film.

However, the film was a box office bomb as it has nothing to offer by its makers other than provoking competing communities in Politics. The film majorly attracted negative reviews both from the critics and the public alike.

'Dorasaani'

'Dorasaani' is a 2019 Telugu romantic drama film by KVR Mahendra and debuts Anand Deverakonda and Shivatmika Rajasekhar in Telugu cinema playing the lead roles.

The film is produced by Madhura Sreedhar Reddy that tells the story of Devaki, a daughter/Dorasaani of Dora Raja Reddy who falls in love with Raju, the son of a lower caste Painter.

Arjun Reddy

This 2017 Telugu romantic drama film by Sandeep Reddy Vanga stars Vijay Deverakonda and Shalini Pandey that focuses on a Reddy boy named Arjun Reddy and his self-destructive path after the marriage of his girlfriend Preethi Shetty, the film majorly focuses on his downfall and subsequent resurgence.

Justice Chowdary

This 1982 action drama film by K.Raghavendra Rao is written by Satyanand and produced by T.Trivikrama Rao starring NTR and Sridevi in the lead roles. The film was a blockbuster hit and it was almost remade in all the major Indian languages under various titles.

Vijayendra Varma (2004)

Vijayendra Varma is a 2004 Telugu action film produced by Konda Krishnam Raju, and directed by Swarna Subba Rao that features Nandamuri Balakrishna, Laya, Sangeetha and Ankita is actually inspired by the 2002 English film 'The Bourne Identity and its story was written by V.Vijayendra Prasad. However, the film was a flop at the box-office.
