Lakshmi's NTR review highlights: An absolute yawnfest

Arguably one of the most controversial films of the year, Lakshmi’s NTR finally hit screens today (well, everywhere except AP). Unfortunately, the build up to the Ram Gopal Varma directorial was far more entertaining than the movie itself, which is an absolute yawnfest.

(Yagna Shetty) is a devout bhakt of cine legend and politician NT Rama Rao (P Vijay Kumar). She approaches him to write his biography. Out of power and lonely after his wife’s death, Lakshmi fills the void in NTR’s life and the two become extremely close over the course of time. Lakshmi’s proximity to NTR is frowned upon by his family and son-in-law Chandrababu Naidu (Sritej) approaches him, urging NTR to maintain distance for the sake of the party. NTR is having none of it, and decides to marry her instead.


Given the earlier biopics on NTR earlier this year, Lakshmi Parvathi’s story was overlooked and deserves to be told. But the manner in which is portrayed in this film is tedious and cumbersome. The film is unnecessarily dark, overly melodramatic and is full of absurd camera angles that in no way enhance the narration. A few minutes into the film and you can’t wait for the story to move forward. By the time it’s intermission, it’s hard not to fall asleep.
