'Laggam' is a heartfelt ode to marriage & tradition: Director Ramesh Cheppala

Ramesh Cheppala’s journey from the quiet fields of Kanaparthi, Nizamabad, to the bright lights of the film industry is a story of passion, grit and an unshakable love for cinema. “I’ve been passionate about books and storytelling from a young age, and my love for world cinema led me to attend almost all the international film festivals held in India,” shares Ramesh, reflecting on his early days.

“My journey into the industry started with ghostwriting before I became a credited writer and associate director, contributing to films like 'SSC' and 'Mee Sreyobhilashi'. I made my directorial debut with Bewars (2018),” he adds.

His last film, 'Bheemadevarapally Branchi' (2023) established Ramesh Cheppala as a filmmaker adept at weaving compelling narratives rooted in smalltown life. He is hoping that his upcoming film, 'Laggam', set to release on October 25, will further solidify his place in Tollywood.

“'Laggam' translates to ‘marriage’ in rural Telangana. It is a heartwarming tale set against the backdrop of marriage, blending tradition, culture, family values, and the beautiful emotions that surround it. When I narrated the story to Rajendra Prasad garu, he hugged me with tears in his eyes. It’s a film where every Telugu family will see themselves,” he shares.


Sai Ronak, the lead actor, says, “Being part of 'Laggam' was like living through an actual wedding. Ramesh Cheppala is a director who brings us back to our roots and presents culture in an endearing way.” Producer Venugopal Reddy says, “'Laggam' is more than a village drama; it’s a reminder of the rich traditions that define our weddings. It’s a family entertainer that both kids and elders can enjoy.” Pragya Nagra plays the female lead in the film that also features Rajendra Prasad, Rohini, LB Sreeram. Charan Arjun is composing music and Mani Sharma handling the background score.
