Reports trickle in that Karnam Malleswari biopic director Sanjana Reddy has been admitted to a private hospital in Hyderabad due to a health issue. A web portal quoted a source as stating that the director has been shifted to Intensive Care Unit and put on ventilator support as her condition remains extremely critical. It was also reported that a neuro physician is attending her to diagnose and attend to the issue. However, producer-writer Kona Venkat dismissed these reports. The producer, who’s also awaiting the release of his pan-Indian film Nishabdham stated that Sanjana was on a liquid diet for three days and ended up fainting at home. While she has been admitted to a private hospital, she will be discharged on Monday night. He even reportedly expressed confidence that the biopic will be on track, beginning shoot soon. Sanjana Reddy debuted in 2018 with Raj Tarun starrer Raju Gadu. Since then, she has been working on the biopic of weightlifter Karnam Malleswari, which was recently announced, on her birthday. The film will be a pan-Indian movie, and is yet to be titled. While biopics of sports stars have been made in the past, this is the first time a biopic on Karnam Malleswari is being attempted. The retired weightlifter was the first Indian woman to win a medal at the Olympics when she won bronze at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. She remains the only Indian woman to have won an Olympic medal. Malleswari was born in Voosavanipeta near Amadalavalasa in Andhra Pradesh, the village where Sanjana hails from too.
