Actor Jiiva is set to portray Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in the upcoming Tollywood movie ‘Yatra 2’. The prequel to this film focused on Jagan Mohan Reddy’s father, the late politician YS Rajasekhara Reddy, with Mollywood superstar Mammootty playing the character. Jiiva recently recalled the advice Mammootty had given him while playing the role of a politician.
Jiiva told India Today, this meeting with Mammootty was their first since their initial collaboration in the movie ‘Anandham’ in 2000. After two decades, they reunited on the set of ‘Yatra 2’. Jiiva mentioned that the time spent with Mammootty was brief, but he took the opportunity to inquire about whether playing the role of a politician in a movie would impact an actor's personal life. In response, the superstar simply said, “What problem? We are just actors.”
Curious about Mammootty's experience in the prequel portraying YS Rajasekhara Reddy, Jiiva expressed gratitude for the insightful line. Mammootty surprised Jiiva by emphasizing that actors transform into various characters, and depicting political figures on screen doesn't imply support for them or their political affiliations. Mammootty emphasized that, for an actor, the world is their stage, and Jiiva fondly recalled Mammootty's words: ‘An actor should use the stage.’
‘Yatra 2’ is a biopic centered on YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and is scheduled to be released on February 8, 2024. Directed by Mahi V Raghav, the film also features Ketaki Narayan and Mahesh Manjrekar in significant roles.
