It took 27 years to become director: Kamal

Speaking at the making video launch of Cheekati Rajyam in Hyderabad, Kamal Haasan shared that he is envious of the film���s director Rajesh M Selva because he became a director in a short time. ���I am really envious of him because it took me 27 years to convince myself that I could become a director. I worked under many senior directors like KB sir and K Viswanath.I wasn���t just an actor but also worked as an assistant director. In Cheekati Rajyam, I was just a producer because Rajesh was looking after everything,��� he said.
Speaking about how the debut director was roped in, Kamal said it was a really long journey for him to reach there. ���He has been working with Raaj Kamal Films for 7 and a half years! That's nearly half Ram's vanavasam (laughs!). It's the same time to make and MD - After MBBS, you have to spend a few years doing MD and that's how much time he took too. But he failed no class and progressed likewise,��� he said, adding, ���Rajesh started off at the bottom of the entire process - as an assistant director. Over a period of & years, he graduated to the post of 2nd and 1st assistant director. For Cheekati Rajyam, he put in the usual hard work of scheduling, break down and other such works and thought I would be the film's director. It was then that I suddenly told him one day that he would be the director.���
