It felt empowering to meet the President: Poonam Kaur

A few days ago, Poonam Kaur had the privilege of meeting India's President, Draupadi Murmu, at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi. Her objective was to showcase a unique Tiranga made by Satyanarayana, a weaver from AP, to the President and the actress is glad she could help. "I take immense satisfaction in being able to contribute to Satyanarayana's dream. A weaver hailing from Vemavaram, West Godavari in Andhra Pradesh, he longed to meet the President and exhibit the unique tiranga he intricately crafted.While his aspiration of seeing the flag flutter proudly at Lal Qila remains unrealized, I find solace in having played a role in bringing his story to the corridors of Delhi," she says.


The weaver with big dreams
Satyanarayana introduced this distinct Tiranga to the world first in 2019. He raised Rs 6.5 lakh for a specialised loom by selling his ancestral home. His inspiration stemmed from the short film "Little Indians," leading him to weave an 8x12 ft flag devoid of traditional stitching. Notably, he ingeniously incorporated the Ashoka Chakra into the Tiranga through his weaving technique, marking a significant achievement.
