Director
Ram Gopal Varma is in legal trouble again after he announced his next titled Murder which is based on an honour killing in Telangana.
The incident shook the nation in 2018 as Pranay, a young Dalit man was allegedly murdered by his wife’s father, Maruthi Rao. This movie is said to be based on the love of a father for his daughter. After RGV announced the film, Pranay’s father, Bala Swamy approached the Nalgonda District Court and filed a case against RGV and producer Natti Karuna.
The FIR was lodged and the Nalgonda Police communicated the same to RGV who responded by saying that he is going to let his lawyers handle this case. He tweeted, “With regard to media speculations on the case filed on my film MURDER ,I once again want to reiterate that my film is based and inspired from a true incident and it is not the truth ..Also there’s no mention of anyone’s caste in the film. With regard to the case filed on the basis of uninformed speculations, our advocates will give an appropriate reply as required by law. I specifically mentioned that I have no intention to demean or degrade anyone and my film is just a creative work based on a subject which is in the public domain ..But as a citizen who respects the law, i too will proceed legally to protect my fundamental rights” (sic)
Bala Swamy told Hyderabad Times “We already have many issues to deal with. Amrutha(Pranay’s wife) was slut-shamed on social media after RGV announced the film. It is extremely hurtful to see a director like RGV trying to cash in on my son’s murder.”
