Actress Ambika insists that directing a movie was just a one-off thing Actress Ambika, who sizzled on the silver screen right through the 80s with her scintillating performances, went on to debut as a director with her film Anabella. However, contrary to what the rest of the industry believes, the change does not mean she has said goodbye to her career as an actor. It was my dream to direct one film, and I have done that. That does not mean I have quit acting, says Ambika.
This misconception made her lose three or four good offers from some directors. They just assumed I was not keen on acting anymore. But I will always be an actor, at least as long as my health and fate allow me to be one. Acting is what pays for my bread and butter, she insists.
Anabella is a romantic, suspense thriller with an interesting concept. This could easily be the first point-of-view movie made in south India, claims Ambika. The cast features a host of newcomers, including Miss Kerala 2010 Indu Thampi. Its fun to work with newcomers as they have this fire and passion for their work, she recalls. Suresh Nair, Ambikas brother, has scripted and co-directed the movie. My experience and knowledge about movies so far has helped me direct Anabella. I hope the audience like it. It should hit screens by Christmas this year. The actor, who took a 10-year sabbatical post her appearance in Pattanapravesham, starring Mohanlal and Sreenivasan in 1988, made a comeback with Snehasindhooram in 1998. I took time off to get married and start a family, she says, But that never meant I would not return to the screen.
