Megna Mukherjee’s big break came with a commercial featuring former Indian cricket captain
Sourav Ganguly, which opened doors for her first feature film role. She has been cast opposite Chandrahass, son of actor-turned-director
Prabhakar Podakandla, in the upcoming Telugu film Baraabar Premistha. Sharing about her role, she says, "It’s a fresh story about two young people from rival villages who fall in love despite the odds. While it may sound simple, the tension between the villages brings about many challenges. I’m truly grateful to the director and production team for their trust in me.”
Determined to give her best, Megna immersed herself in the film’s world. “I came into this project with an open mind, eager to learn and ready to absorb everything,” she says, adding, “I spent an additional 20 days in the Telangana village of Arutla (a village in Telangana) to grasp the local body language and dialect, which was essential for my role.”
Did you know Janhvi Kapoor once thought of giving up acting and becoming a 'momager'?
The Sourav Ganguly commercial was a turning point in her career. She says, “The ad received a great response. One of Baraabar Premistha’s producers noticed me and invited me for a meeting. After a look test, I was offered the role.”
Transitioning from modelling to acting, however, wasn’t easy. She says, “I went through 40-50 rejections before landing my first commercial. But from that point, opportunities began to flow, and I completed ten more commercials before signing my first film. Working in ads gave me the confidence I needed to step into films. Each experience, from hoardings to commercials, has been a valuable lesson, shaping my journey in unforgettable ways. I wouldn’t change a thing. My acting career is just beginning, and I’m determined to make it a lasting one. I’ve signed another project, but I’ll share more once the official announcements are made.”
