Debutant director AR Abhi is a happy man post the release of
Lucky Lakshman, starring Sohel and Mokksha in the lead roles. “I wrote the story three years ago when I was dreaming of entering the film industry someday. But I always somehow thought I’ll debut with a
masaledaar action film,” he tells us, adding, “Yet here I am today with this heart-warming tale as my debut.”
The film, produced by Haritha Gogineni under the Dattatreya Media banner, tells the story of a middle-class man so blinded by ambition that he fails to recognise the love he’s surrounded by. “He always believes that the grass is greener on the other side. I wanted to tell the audience in a non-preachy and entertaining manner that we need to learn to count our blessings,” says Abhi, adding, “And Sohel was just perfect for it.”
It was by chance that Abhi saw a well-dressed Sohel in a video. “I had not watched
Bigg Boss, so I did not know much about Sohel. But once I met him, I knew I had found my Lakshman. He was being choosy about the scripts he picked. So I’m glad he said yes to this project. The way he pulled off the character, I can’t imagine anyone else in his place now,” he signed off.
