On Tollywood filmmaker VV Vinayak's 46th birthday, we take a look at five films that gave a new dimension to commercial cinema

VV Vinayak is a highly acclaimed Telugu film director. Hailing from Chagallu, West Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh, Vinayak is one of the successful filmmakers of Telugu cinema. He has directed over 15 films through his Tollywood career. Be it a romantic comedy Dil or a socio-action entertainer Tagore, the movies still stand tall in the list of Tollywood's best movies. It will be fair to say that most of the director's movies will remain close to our hearts. On Tollywood filmmaker VV Vinayak's 46th birthday, we take a look at five films that gave a new dimension to commercial cinema.

​Jr NTR starrer Aadi

VV Vinayak made his directorial debut with the film Aadi (2002), starring Jr NTR in the lead. The stupendous success of Aadi became the testimony to Vinayak’s filmography. It was not only a path-breaking film but also ruffled the traditional Telugu audience with its newness. Since then, he has become one of the most sought after directors in Telugu cinema. When Vinayak made Aadi with young tiger NTR, the film was an out-and-out money spinner at the box office. He won Nandi Award for Best Direction.

​Nithiin starrer Dil

When antagonist Gowri Shankar suspects his daughter, Nandini, of having an affair with her co-student Seenu, he sends his henchmen to kill him. Agitated, Seenu determines to woo Nandini. It was the maiden production venture of Dil Raju whose name got prefixed with the film’s title. Actress Neha who romanced Nithiin in the film made her Tollywood debut with this romantic comedy entertainer. Dil became instrumental in establishing VV Vinayak as the commercially viable director.

Chiranjeevi starrer Tagore

The VV Vinayak directed film had become a talk of the town when it hit the screens. It is by far the best commercial entertainer Vinayak has ever directed. The story deals with college professor Tagore forms a group called ACF (Anti Corruption Force) with his former students in order to fight against all the corrupt government officers who barriers the welfare of the society. Tagore was a huge hit for its perfect blend of action and mass masala extravaganza. Be it the dialogues of the songs, Tagore became a rage upon release.

Ravi Teja starrer Krishna

The film happens to be Vinayak’s first collaboration with Tollywood star Ravi Teja. The film tells the story of a software engineer Krishna, who falls in love with a Hyderabad businessman Shinde’s sister Sandhya at first sight in Vijayawada during the celebration of Dussehra festival learns that Sandhya is being chased by a notorious criminal Jakka. How Krishna protects Sandhya from Jakka and marries forms the crux of the story. Despite opening to mixed reviews from the critics and audience, the film shattered the box office records upon release, becoming the 2nd highest grosser of that year.

​Chiranjeevi starrer Khaidi No 150

Vinayak and Chiranjeevi came together again for Khaidi No 150, a remake of the Tamil hit film Kaththi, written by AR Murugadoss. The Chiranjeevi’s comeback film was all about farmers. The film was lauded for its unique story, solid screenplay and uncompromising performance of Chiranjeevi. An engaging story about a farmer's fight against the corporate system, this film was believed to have given a new boost to Chiranjeevi’s career.
