Born to yesteryear actors Roja Ramani and Chakrapani, Tarun Kumar was a national award-winning child artist who appeared in several Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam films. After a 5-year-break from the silver screen, he made his protagonist debut at just 17 years of age with ‘Nuvve Kavali’.Bankrolled by Usha Kiran Movies and directed by K Vijaya Bhaskar, the romantic comedy released in 2000 created a sensation at the box-office and went on to acquire a cult following among the Telugu-speaking audience.
During the early 2000s, Tarun was labelled as the ‘Lover Boy’ of Telugu cinema and he saw some phenomenal hits like ‘Priyamaina Neeku’, ‘Nuvvu Leka Nenu Lenu’ and ‘Nuvve Nuuvve’. However, a string of failures in the following years had a major impact on his film journey, and despite featuring in limited number of projects since then, he couldn’t grab the much-needed success.
