Happy Birthday Dhanya Balakrishna: The supporting actress worked her way to become the leading lady down south

Supporting actors or TV stars sweating it hard to step into the shoes of a protagonist/leading lady is no new in Indian cinema. The likes of Ravi Teja, Vijay Sethupathi and Ayushmann Khurrana can be termed as the prime examples of this special group. However, it’s not an easy task for small-time female artists to overcome all obstacles and face several challenges in the prolonged path to acquire stardom. This has been achieved by quite a few starlets who include the very beautiful and lissome diva Dhanya Balakrishna.

After wrapping up her BA Degree and pursuing a Masters in Film Studies, the Kannada diva joined an English theatre company where she was actively involved in the craft for two years. After portraying quite a few lead roles and well-etched supporting roles in several big-budget films across Tamil and Telugu, Dhanya Balakrishna will soon be debuting in Malayalam and Kannada. The multifaceted personality who also happens to a professional writer is celebrating her birthday today and check out some interesting facts about her.

Born to Tamil-speaking parents, Dhanya Balakrishna was raised in Bengaluru till her graduation days. Then on, she moved to Chennai to pursue her Masters in Film Studies and subsequently joined an English theatre company called Evam where she was actively involved in acting for two years. Very soon, she received an audition call from AR Murugadoss for ‘7th Sense’ and eventually played the role of a scientist alongside Suriya and Shruti Haasan.

After featuring in a queue of supporting roles in Kollywood, Dhanya Balakrishna appeared in a cameo opposite Mahesh Babu in the 2013 film ‘Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu’. Though it was a short role, she managed to strike the right chord with the viewers as she proposes to Mahesh in a hilarious scene. Her supporting stint in Tollywood carried on with a queue of films like ‘Run Raja Run’, ‘Raju Gari Gadhi’ and ‘Nenu Sailaja’. Her last appearance in Telugu was the role of Rakul Preet Singh’s friend in ‘Jaya Janaki Nayaka.’

After playing quite a few lead roles and well-etched supporting roles in several big-budget films across Tamil and Telugu, Dhanya Balakrishna will soon be debuting in Malayalam and Kannada. She will be stepping foot into Mollywood by playing the female lead opposite Chemban Vinod Jose in the upcoming drama Puzhikkadakan. Simultaneously, she will also be a part of the Nivin Pauly & Nayanthara starrer Love Action Drama in a full-length supporting role. In her maiden Malayalam project Puzhikkadakan, the leggy lass will play the role of Anna, a typical girl from Malayali Christian family who elopes and marries a jawan.

Not many know that Dhanya Balakrishna has co-written the successful Tamil adult-comedy web series ‘As I'm Suffering from Kadhal’. Basically, the cute belle hails from a musical household as both her father and grandfather were accomplished Veena players. She is also a trained singer in Carnatic music. She has plans to co-write the second season of her web series and also venture into direction.
