​Happy Birthday Boyapati Srinu: Films of the talented director that will stay with the Telugu audience in the years to come

‘Bhadra’ released in 2005 and marked the beginning of a new trend in Telugu cinema. The assistant director of Muthyala Subbaiah, Boyapati Srinu made quite an impressive debut with the Ravi Teja-starrer but his third film ‘Simha’ (2010) is what turned the spotlight on the director. T-town suddenly had a director who was very much in love with high-voltage action sequences and more importantly, who loves to kill one of the leading ladies in his films. Boyapati Srinu had created a quite unique style for himself in the industry. The director has completed about more than a decade in the Telugu film industry and he turns 49 today.

On the occasion his special day, here’re the films of Boyapati Srinu that will stay with the Telugu audience in the years to come.

Bhadra

The story of ‘Bhadra’ revolves around the rivalry between two gangs in the Rayalaseema region. A girl from one of the gangs remains alone as her entire family has been murdered by the rival gang. Her brother’s thickest friend comes forward to the rescue of the girl. Mass Maharaja Ravi Teja had played the titular role in the film with Meera Jasmine as his love interest. Bullabbayi (Sunil) and Surendra (Prakash Raj) are still remembered and are also part of the film’s huge success. The brutal murders, raw visuals, action sequences and creative interpretation of the script announced that Boyapati Srinu is not just another director in town.

Thulasi

After directing the commercial faction entertainer ‘Bhadra’, Boyapati got to yet another out-and-out action entertainer ‘Thulasi’, starring Victory Venkatesh and Nayanthara in the lead roles. Despite having similar tropes like his previous flick, Venkatesh’s ferocious performance, Nayanthara’s beauty, Master Atulith cute performance, Devi Sri Prasad’s peppy music and other valuable ingredients, struck gold at the box office. Venkatesh played an angry young man, who is separated from his wife after the death of his wife’s brother tries very hard to mingle with her. D Suresh Babu had funded this project under his home banner Suresh Productions.

Simha

‘Tulasi’ might have given him the break, but ‘Simha’ is what made him stand out from the rest. The protagonist Srimannarayana is a college professor who lives with his grandmother in peace. When he saves the life of his student Janaki from goons, his grandmother makes some revelations of brutal murders of his parents. The film had a huge influence on the youngsters of Telugu states and there was a huge surge in the number of aspiring filmmakers after the release of the film. It was said to be the comeback film of Nandamuri Balakrishna after a series of failures.

Legend

After working together in ‘Simha’, Boyapati Srinu and Nandamuri Balakrishna have teamed up again for the action drama ‘Legend’. This time again Boyapati came up with a suitable script to Balayya. Upon its release, it was a talk of the film industry then. His well-written screenplay and story showed that he had done a lot of hard work for the film. Balayya played the dual role, Jaidev (father) and Krishna (son) in the film. As the title suggests, he is a legend in terms of raise his voice against the injustice happening around him in society.

Sarrainodu

Stylish Star Allu Arjun continued his successful journey with the commercial action entertainer ‘Sarrainodu’, directed by Boyapati Srinu. Besides Allu Arjun, the film starred Aadhi Pinisetty, Rakul Preet Singh, Catherine Tresa and Srikanth. One of the best and sharply written action dramas, the film encompasses never seen before and unbelievable action scenes, unforgettable songs, Allu Arjun’s super dance moves, etc. The film has opened on a decent note at the domestic box office. Although the action entertainer received mixed reviews from the critics, the film successfully earned a whopping Rs 80 crore at the box office on its long run.
