The talented filmmaker, Murugadoss Arunasalam who is known by the screen name of AR Murugadoss has turned 46 today. Known for making films deal with social issues, Murugadoss has established himself as one of the prominent directors of the industry. He began his career as an assistant director for Ratchagan (1997). After working for several hit films, he made his directorial debut with the 2001 film Dheena, starring Ajith Kumar, Suresh Gopi and Laila. The film was a huge box office success, since then he has helmed many blockbuster hits. As the successful filmmaker AR Murugadoss turns a year older today, we take a look at some of his well-made commercial entertainers.

Stalin
AR Murugadoss has collaborated Megastar Chiranjeevi for his Tollywood debut, Stalin, in 2006, which took the nation by storm. The film is about an Army major Stalin, who is deeply moved by the suicide of a girl with physical disabilities devises a formula of extending unconditional help to those who need it to establish peace. The film was remade in Hindi with Salmaan Khan as Jai Ho and was not only a commercially successful but also premiered at the International Film Festival of India.

Ghajini
Directed by AR Murugadoss, the action thriller opened to high critical acclaim and went on to become one of the major box office successes. Upon release, the album became a rage among the audience, thanks to the music director Harris Jayaraj. The film revolves around a mobile company owner, Sanjay Ramaswamy who is suffering from short-term memory loss, sets out on a quest to find the culprits who were responsible for his ladylove Kalpana's murder. Ghajini is considered one of Murugadoss’ finest films. It was remade in Hindi with Amir Khan as the same name and became the first Bollywood film to cross the Rs 100 crore mark at the box office.

Thuppakki
In this action drama, Murugadoss takes on the sleeper cells and terrorism. Playing the role of an Army intelligence officer, Vijay’s performance as Jagadish was highly appreciated by the masses and the film achieved cult status among fans. Vijay worked with Murugadoss for the first time. Amid high expectations, Thuppakki released in 2012 and shattered box-office records. In fact, the film remains to be one of Vijay’s best works. The film revolves around an army officer who finds out their city will be blasted makes a plan to capture the mastermind behind the blasts.

7th Sense
Murugadoss teamed up with Suriya for 7the Sense which tells the story of a circus performer Aravind, who is descendant of the legendary Bodhi Dharma has been awakened by the genetic memory to long-forgotten skills to prevent a biological war between two countries. Suriya was praised for his performance in the dual role; Bodhidharma and Aravind. The film showcases Murugadoss’ finesse as a director.

Sarkar
The 2018 film starred Vijay and Keerthy Suresh in the lead roles. Directed by Murugadoss, the film tells the story of an NRI businessman, Sundar Ramasamy who returns home and learns about the practice of illegal voting. When he decides to investigate the matter, he finds himself pitted against two corrupt politicians. The film emerged as one of the biggest box –office hits of the year.
