With just days to go for the release of 'Ghaati', the much-awaited action drama starring
Anushka Shetty, co-producer Rajeev Reddy has opened up about the vision behind mounting the film and why it was designed as a grand commercial entertainer.
As per a report by CineExpress, while speaking to the media, Rajeev Reddy said that the idea was to create a big-scale action drama led by a female superstar, something Tollywood has rarely explored in recent years. "We always wanted to make a commercial action drama with a female superstar. After Karthavyam, there was no film on that scale again. Among the current generation, only Anushka gaaru has such stardom," he shared, underscoring why the actress was the natural choice for the role.
A full on actioner with Krish Jagarlamudi's style
The producer added that 'Ghaati' is a fiction work, but set in a serious backdrop. "We wanted to make a story in the backdrop of ganja, but there was a discussion about whether to make it a movie or a web series. After deciding the subject with Anushka, we finalised it as a film project. It's a full-on actioner and will have a trademark Krish Jagarlamudi style," Reddy explained.
About 'Ghaati'
Directed by Krish Jagarlamudi, 'Ghaati' follows the story of a tribal community where Anushka's character is unwillingly pulled into a huge drug mafia conspiracy. The film is sure to portray her in a power-packed avatar, including the kind of larger-than-life action sequences rarely headlined by women in Telugu cinema.
Apart from Anushka, the film features Vikram Prabhu as the male lead, while veteran
Jagapathi Babu, Ravindra Vijay and Chaitanya Rao Madadi play pivotal roles.
It is slated to release worldwide on September 5 in both Telugu and Tamil. Interestingly, it will clash with the Mouli-starrer 'Little Hearts' at the box office.
