Gear up for a laugh riot with Gang Leader

Nani is known for playing the witty charmer on screen and he admits it’s an extension of his own personality. While he bucked the trend with an intense role in Jersey this year, the actor is happy to be back in his element as a witty author in Vikram K Kumar’s

“I play this fun-loving guy called Pencil Parthasarathy. He’s an author of revenge novels, plots of which he blatantly rips off from popular English films. So, a Kill Bill becomes Rasidhu Ni Champu in his hands. He’s a seasoned, brazen plagiarist who has written 28 such books using stolen stories from Hollywood, but now wants to write an original story. and that’s how he embarks on an adventure of a lifetime,” says Nani, explaining his character excitedly.

The actor is quick to point out that even though Pencil Parthasarathy plagiarises to make a living, it’s hard not to fall in love with him. “His intention is never to cheat anyone; he’s genuinely excited when he pens down these stolen stories. Everything about him is just so innocent and nice, it’s refreshing,” he says, adding, “How he rises to the occasion when a motley bunch of women seeks his help to get their revenge proves that there’s more to him than what meets the eye.”

A comic tale of revenge that sees four women and a child seek retribution against a powerful person who has done them great injustice, Gang Leader features an ensemble cast — Lakshmi, Saranya Povannan, Shriya Reddy, Priyanka Arul, child actor Pranya Rao and Karthikeya in a negative role. Nani says it was “great fun” to be around the talented bunch. “Lakshmi garu and Saranya garu have incredible comic timing; Priyanka, Shriya and Karthikeya too did a good job. The mood on the set was always super exciting,” he says, adding, “director Vikram too is a fun-loving guy. Whenever we would do a funny scene, he would just burst out laughing looking at the monitor. It would give us all a huge boost. All the fun we had on the set will reflect on screen as well.”
