Kathiawadi' is the most anticipated film that is backed by Jayantilal Gada and Sanjay Leela Bhansali under the banner of Bhansali Productions in association with Pen India Limited. The film tells the tale a young girl named Ganga who becomes Gangubai, a madame in the red light area of Kamathipura. It is loosely based on the true story of Gangubai Harjivandas, popularly known as Gangubai Kothewali, whose life was documented in the book 'Mafia Queens of Mumbai' written by S. Hussain Zaidi.


The Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial film also stars Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz, Indira Tiwari, Seema Pahwa, Varun Kapoor, Jim Sarbh and Huma Qureshi in significant roles. The technical crew includes Sudeep Chatterjee as the Director of Photography, Pallab Chanda as the art director, Rajesh Pandey as the editor and Shruti Mahajan as the costume designer.
